Intraoperative Neurophysiology – A State-of-the-Art Approach

The international course “Intraoperative Neurophysiology – A State-of-the-Art Approach” was held in Sibiu, Romania, from June 4–7, 2026. The course was directed by Professor Mirela Simon (Boston, USA) and organized in collaboration with the Romanian Society of Electrodiagnostic Neurophysiology (ASNER) and MedLife Polisano Hospital.
The meeting welcomed 120 participants from 16 countries and featured an outstanding international faculty of 30 renowned experts from Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. The scientific program included 40 plenary lectures, 15 interactive workshops and discussion groups, and 24 case-based presentations, creating a highly engaging educational experience.
Designed as a comprehensive multidisciplinary course, the program covered the full spectrum of contemporary intraoperative neurophysiology, from fundamental principles to state-of-the art neuromonitoring techniques and evidence-informed clinical practice. Scientific sessions addressed intraoperative neuromonitoring in spinal, brain, carotid, aortic, peripheral nerve, pelvic, thyroid, and parathyroid surgery, as well as the essential role of anesthetic management in optimizing neurophysiological monitoring and improving patient safety.
Beyond its scientific excellence, the course provided an outstanding opportunity for participants to exchange clinical experience, discuss challenging cases, establish new professional collaborations, and strengthen international friendships. It also represented an important milestone in promoting education and the development of intraoperative neurophysiology in Romania while reinforcing collaboration within the global neurophysiology community.
